Family history
In some families breast cancer can be inherited due a defective gene that can be passed from one generation to the next. The more number of relatives on one side (paternal or maternal) with breast or ovarian cancer, the more significant is the history.
In other families that do not have a genetic defect, but frequent breast cancers occur, no gene is found yet. Future research may reveal more.
Patients with strong or moderate risk breast cancer get early yearly screening from the age of 40.
